SUSTAINABILITY
DURING YOUR STAY

A GREENER
CLUB LA SANTA

It is an important part of Club La Santa that we have a positive impact on the society and environment we are part of. Travel and tourism affect our climate and environment, and that's why we want to take responsibility. We want to make Club La Santa greener and contribute to a more sustainable form of tourism that has the least possible impact on the environment and climate.

Working with sustainability is a continuous process, where we are constantly striving to implement more initiatives, to become even better and even greener. Our work unfolds in particular through these four focus areas:

  • Green energy
  • Responsible consumption
  • Protecting the environment
  • Collaborations

GREEN ENERGY

Our aim is to constantly improve the efficiency of our energy consumption and make it even greener.
Fortunately, Lanzarote has some of the best conditions for green, renewable energy.
We have invested in the best technology to utilise the island's many natural resources.

SOLAR THERMAL PANELS

SOLAR THERMAL PANELS

On the roofs of the south side of Club La Santa, we have installed over 400 solar thermal panels to provide hot water and to heat the 50 metre swimming pools. On the north side, we have installed 425 solar thermal panels to heat the 50-metre pool in the north.

At night and during periods when the pools are not in use, we use thermal covers to avoid temperature losses.

GEOTHERMAL HEAT PUMPS

GEOTHERMAL HEAT PUMPS

Club La Santa has one of the largest geothermal heat pump installations in Spain. The installation allows us to extract the stable temperature of the underground of Lanzarote to optimise the generation of heat or cold generated by our heat pumps.

The heat pumps can generate a heating capacity of up to 3275 kWp and a cooling capacity of 2800 kWp.

The heat from this renewable energy source is used to heat the two 50 metre swimming pools in the south or for the hotel's hot water. The cold it generates is used to air-condition the suites and part of our facilities.

SOLAR ENERGY AT
CLUB LA SANTA

At Club La Santa, we are committed to solar energy as part of our dedication to the unique environment of Lanzarote. We are constantly evolving, moving towards a more responsible and environmentally friendly model.

Our latest project, funded by the European Union through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, has involved the installation of a photovoltaic system in the south parking area, another step forward in our sustainability strategy.

We currently have a photovoltaic installation with a total capacity of 450 kW, distributed across two areas of the resort:

  • Rooftops (North Hall, Boulder and table tennis areas):
625 solar panels with a capacity of 200 kW
  • South parking canopy:
540 panels over 1,200 m² with a capacity of 250 kW

Thanks to this infrastructure, we generate around 700 MWh of clean energy per year, allowing us to cover approximately 15% of the resort’s total electricity consumption. In other words, a significant part of the energy you use during your stay is already renewable.

The solar energy is integrated directly into the resort’s electrical system and supplies key areas such as:

  • Climate control systems
  • Swimming pools
  • Suites

This means that part of your experience - from the comfort of your room to enjoying our facilities - is powered by clean energy.

Thanks to our solar production:

  • We avoid approximately 385 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

This is equivalent, for example, to:

  • The annual emissions of more than 80 households
  • The positive impact of planting thousands of trees.

We continue working every year to further reduce our carbon footprint.

We are currently developing a project to install electric vehicle charging points, with the aim of:

  • Promoting more sustainable mobility
  • Reducing indirect emissions
  • Offering new services to our guests.

The implementation of this project will also depend on future funding opportunities and support programmes.

SPORTS, TOURISM,
AND SUSTAINABILITY

Club La Santa has an official “A” Energy Performance Certificate and has some of the best
technology to achieve long-term energy savings. Follow our technical director around the
impressive installations to learn more about how we work with sustainability.

RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION

LIGHTING

Over 90% of the new lamps at Club La Santa are energy-efficient LEDs, helping to reduce energy consumption. Additionally, all outdoor green area lights are scheduled to operate during specific times of the day, ensuring efficient energy use.

WATER

The water used to clean the swimming pool filters is filtered and treated before being reused in the toilets and urinals throughout the hotel. Additionally, all hotel wastewater is sent to the local treatment plant, where it is processed and returned to irrigate the green areas of La Santa Village.

WASTE

Club La Santa carefully separates waste into categories such as general waste, organic waste, glass, metal, plastic, paper, and cardboard. Guests can also sort their waste into plastic, paper, and residual waste. All collected waste is stored in dedicated containers and sent to the appropriate treatment facilities.

WATER DISPENSERS

We’ve installed four new water dispensers around the hotel. This eco-friendly addition makes it easier to stay hydrated while helping to reduce plastic waste. By introducing these dispensers, we save thousands of single-use plastic bottles each year.

PROTECTION OF
THE ENVIRONMENT

PROTECTION OF
THE ENVIRONMENT

Club La Santa is built with respect and admiration for the surrounding nature and environment. It is important for us to protect our surroundings and give them the best conditions to thrive.

Every week, we organise Walk the Talk, where you learn more about Club La Santa's surroundings and help us look after it by collecting rubbish near a protected area. In addition, we publish environmental guides in connection with our different races, with guidelines and recommendations on how to protect of the unique habitats and natural resources of the island.

COLLABORATION

We achieve the most by collaborating with others. That's why Club La Santa is part of both local and international organisations that work together for a more sustainable future.
